Ayodhya Airport – Status, Master Plan & Design

Maharishi Valmiki International Airport is an under construction airport in Faizabad, Uttar Pradesh by Airports Authority of India (AAI). It was earlier known as Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram International Airport.

Ayodhya Airport will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 30, 2023. The project is a brownfield upgrade of Faizabad Airstrip spread across 821 acres of land.

Ayodhya Airport has been designed to operate small ATR-72-600 type aircraft and handle about 300 peak hour passengers. Its design takes inspiration from the under construction Shri Ram Mandir, the site of Ram Janmabhoomi. of Ayodhya Airport is in the design & engineering stage. It will involve construction of a 30,000 sq. m new terminal building capable of handling 3,200 peak hour passengers (PHP), extension of runway length from 2200m to 3125m, and an expansion of the apron to handle 8 narrow-body aircrafts.

Terminal Design

  • 2 The new Shri Ram International Airport is located about 15 km from the main Ayodhya city.
  • The airport’s terminal building will have an area of 6500 sq m, equipped to serve about 10 lakh passengers annually.
  • Ayodhya being developed at a cost of more than ₹2180 crore. PM Modi will also flag off two new Amrit Bharat trains (Darbhanga-Ayodhya-Anand Vihar Terminal Amrit Bharat Express and Malda Town-Sir M.
  • Inside the Maharishi Valmiki International Airport in Ayodhya, the local art, paintings, and murals depict Lord Ram’s life. The airport features an extended runway catering to A-321/B-737 type aircraft operations.
  • IndiGo has announced the inaugural flight from Delhi to Ayodhya on December 30, 2023 with commercial services commencing on January 6, 2024. Post that, tri-weekly flights from Ahmedabad to Ayodhya will begin from January 11.

Sita Ki Rasoi is an ancient kitchen believed to be used by Goddess Sita herself. Built quite close to the Ram Janmabhoomi, this holy site is now a temple with some exhibition vessels. One of the two kitchens named after Sita, this Sita ki Rasoi is a basement kitchen.

At the other end of the temple are richly attired and ornate statues of Rama, Lakshmana, Bharata and Shatrughna and their wives Sita, Urmila, Mandavi and Shrutakirti. Sita, who is worshiped as the goddess of food, is also known as Goddess Annapurna. Thus, the temple follows this tradition by giving free food. Visitors can donate any amount of money to charity here
